About the director
Pamela Hubbard-Wiley received her Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University of Education. She received her Master of Arts and Bachelor's degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology from California State University Los Angeles and San Jose State University, respectively. While at Claremont Graduate University, Dr. Wiley took business management classes from the late renowned Dr. Peter Drucker as well as other esteemed professors.
Dr. Wiley's professional career began in the Los Angeles Unified School District where she served as an itinerant speech- language pathologist and later as a teacher in the severe oral language/aphasia program. She subsequently became a teacher consultant for the aphasia program, participating in the early stages of the IEP process and providing technical and instructional support to classroom teachers. Driven by a desire to provide families with better, innovative services, Dr. Wiley struck out on her own in 1979 and established a private practice. Her hard working spirit and business acumen, coupled with her expertise made the center successful from its inception.
Dr. Wiley has received numerous honors and awards throughout her distinguished career. In 2000, she was named a Fellow of the American Speech and Hearing Association, which is the highest honor bestowed upon its members. Also during that year, she was awarded the U.S. Small Business Administration's Businessperson of the Year for Southern California. Additionally, she has received commendations from several local, state, and national politicians for her ground-breaking work and community involvement. Dr. Wiley is a frequent lecturer at conferences throughout the country and universities throughout the world. She has co-authored a chapter in a widely used textbook, Communication Disorders In Multicultural Populations, now in its third printing, published by Butterworth Heineman. She is also working with a colleague to develop a workbook for speech pathologists on developing and implementing social skills training for children and adolescents with Asperger's Syndrome, high functioning autism, and attention deficit hyperactively disorder. The book will be available in summer 2008.
Dr. Wiley has served many children and adults throughout her career. She says "I feel as passionate and excited about speech pathology today as I did over 3 decades ago. We have great staff, families and community partners such as our regional centers. It's very gratifying."
Dr. Wiley continues to assist with the provision of direct services to children in center programs such as the social skills language program and the annual Say N' Play Summer Speech Camp program.
