Autism: Attacking Social Interaction Problems (AASIP) The Basics and Beyond:  A Therapy Manual Targeting Social Skills in Children 4 to 12 is the result of several years of practical experience and requests from professionals in the field of speech-language pathology.  While conducting workshops and other professional presentations the authors of this manual were often asked when they would make their treatment ideas available in a printed format.  Our collaboration and hard work has finally culminated in the following comprehensive manual.  The AASIP program is designed as a therapy manual targeting social skills in children 4 to 12 years of age.  It offers an integrative and practical approach to social cognitive instruction by teaching and reinforcing skills which will enable students to navigate the social world. Speech language pathologists and other related professionals will find this program useful.

Structure of the Therapy Manual
The AASIP program is divided into helpful sections and modules that facilitate the development of social skills groups.  These sections are listed below:

  1. Getting Started:  Creating a program design, marketing, identifying and scheduling appropriate clients, and setting up your facility.
  2. Basic Structure: Opening and Closing Each Session: Relaxation, opening circle, activities/icebreakers, and closing circle.
  3. Detailed Modules: Designed to address 11 socially relevant topics.
  4. Parent Guide to Services and Supports in English and Spanish.
  5. Resources:  An abridged inventory of resources to maintain and supplement your program.

Each module in the AASIP program contains clear concise instructions on how to introduce and implement each unit with activities, reproducible worksheets, and sample parent letters, suggestions for interactive games, role play scenarios and material lists.  Additionally, each module includes suggestion for community integration of the social skills targeted in each unit.  The final section of the manual is devoted to “Resources”.  In this section SLPs are provided with suggestions for sustaining and continuing a group (questionnaires, tests, books, data charts, sample goals, etc.).

A unique component of the AASIP program is that it includes a chapter designed to facilitate parent training and advocacy.  These topics have been developed based on requests made by parents through the years.  Other topics may be included based on your specific parental needs and requests.

The manuals can be purchased individually or as a package.
